Driving along in the direction of Manavgat, Şarapsahan, which is an ancient caravanserail of the Seljuks, will appear at the 13th km. on the right side. With its walls and ceiling of big stones and founded on an area of 850 m2 , the history of this caravanserail, which has been preserved quite well, goes back to the years 1236-1246, between which it was commissioned by Sultan Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev, son of Alaeddin Keykubat.

Alara Han and Alara Kalesi (Castle) As you drive for 30 km to Antalya from Alanya, which is about 7 km starting from İncekum, you will see the Alarahan signpost. After the turn, a further 7 km (asphalt) road will fetch you to Alarahan near the Alara Stream. Alara stream is not at all an ordinary water. Its banks are laden with the vestiges of a rich history. It was an important part of the silk road once, merchants and caravans gave their final break here in the Alarahan Caravanserail before they reached the seaport of Alaiye (the present Alanya). The caravanserail was built in the time of the Seljukid Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat in 1232. The castle on the hill , Alara Kalesi (castle) has been built for guarding the caravanserail and the silk road arriving all the way from Konya. The castle perched on a conical and very steep hill is very impressive. The temperature allowing, it is a tiring but rewarding climb. It lasts about one hour. In order to reach the castle walls, a 120 step tunneled-corridor should be climbed first. Therefore you will need an artificial light source with you, and preferably a guide. After that you will have to climb through some steep and rough terrain. You will enjoy the scenery as you climb. |
